An Introduction: Who I Am and What This Blog Is About

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my blog.

This has been on my mind for a while now, and I figured I just needed to take action and start a dedicated blog.

A blog about all the things that I am passionate about.

A blog that helps me grow into being the human I aspire to be, and for me to take you on this journey of growth and progress with me.

A blog where I can document my thoughts, insights and ideas and bring all these ideas to life.

My name is Priya Varunesh Kumar, I am an energetic, enthusiastic soul that has always been confused about the answer to the question “Tell me something about yourself.” In no particular order, here are a few things I would like to share about myself :

1. I am a dancer-choreographer-artistic director of Piah Dance Company, an Indian fusion dance company that creates choreographies inspired by Bharatanatyam and Indian folk dances across India.

2. I am an engineer – turned – dancerpreneur after completing my B.Tech in computer science from NIT Bhopal.

3. I am a yoga and health aficionado that has been practicing yoga since I was 13, when I accidentally stumbled upon a ‘Yoga for beginners’ book at home that my mom got for herself. I love reading about nutrition, longevity, fitness, mental well being and everything in the space of health and personal development.

4. I have been studying marketing very closely for the past one year, and using all my experience to build and grow Piah Dance Company, I am excited to slowly grow into a subject matter expert in marketing.

5. I love books. I was not a book lover as a kid and book reading is a self taught habit after I became an adult. Summarising insights about all the books I read is something I have been wanting to do for a while. They say you can remember things better when you summarise your own insights from each book.

6. I love animals. I have seven dogs at home back in Gujarat and they are my children, and I can’t describe how much I love them. They are Indie babies that we rescued a couple of years ago. They are almost 5 years old now and they are the cutest babies.

7. I love plants and I propagate Pothos and other plants in my house like nobody’s business.

8. I am a vegetarian by choice. I quit meat multiple times in life, but then decided to permanently quit in 2020. I do think about turning vegan sometimes, but it is being a vegetarian for now.

9. I love to design clothes. My favourite designs are my dance costumes, where I have specialised in creating these skirts (lehengas) with more than 25 meter flares. I plan to buy a sewing machine soon and learn drafting, pattern making and sewing all by myself.

10. I play the Ukulele at home for fun.

11. I recently learned how to solve the Rubik’s cube and can solve it in under 2 minutes. My aim is to learn to solve this in under a minute.

12. I was a participant at India’s biggest TV reality show back in 2015 called Zee Dance India Dance Season 5 and I had so much fun dancing in that show. It showed me how amazing Mumbai is with its work culture and ethics. It felt like a dream come true, because when I was a child I used to look at Madhuri Dixit’s Ek Do Teen on TV and copy her steps, entertaining guests who would visit home.

13. I don’t like wasting money on unnecessary things. I buy most of my clothes at the thrift shop, or create DIYs. I do have some good quality statement shoes and clothes, but they are the ones to last forever.

14. My favourite purchase from last year was this Manduka yoga mat which is probably the coolest item I own. It has the greatest grip I have ever felt in a yoga mat.

15. I recently learnt how to do embroidery. And now I am obsessed with adding tiny flowers and leaves and hearts and bees on all my clothes.

16. I am married to the most wonderful man ever! We met friend’s wedding as an act of serendipity in January of 2020 and we got married on 9th of July 2024. He is my best friend and life is just way more fun with him around! *knocks on wood*
